Joint Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government to discuss role and remuneration of local authority members

The Joint Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House to discuss the role and remuneration of local authority members.

Deputies and Senators will be briefed by John Paul Phelan TD, Minister of State at the Department of Planning, Housing and Local Government with special responsibility for Local Government and Electoral Reform.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Chairman Noel Rock TD said: “Councillors elected across the country have a critical place in our democracy in terms of local representation and administration. A review of the role and remuneration of local authority members is currently under way and the Committee looks forward to hearing Minister Phelan’s views on what options that could offer for those involved in local government.”
