Public funding of €6500 has already been approved from the Built Heritage Leverage Scheme for Phase One while Birr Stage Guild also recently made a very generous donation of €2000 to the Façade Restoration Fund.

It is hoped Phase Two will get underway in 2017. It will see vital repairs to the ornate facia on the façade. It is estimated Phase Two will cost an estimated €30,000. Birr Theatre & Arts Centre is currently making an application to the Arts & Cultural Scheme from the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

Dating back to 1888, Birr Theatre & Arts Centre underwent major refurbishment back in 1999/2000 with the public playing a major part in the restoration. Birr Theatre & Arts Centre is now calling on the public once again to help meet the costs of this latest phase of restoration.

Emma Nee Haslam, Venue Manager at Birr Theatre & Arts Centre, said: ‘The public can help us in a number of ways: they can make a once-off donation of €25 or more via the Birr Theatre & Arts Centre website,www.birrtheatre.com. They can also purchase a copy of the booklet, Drama in Birr: Oxmantown Hall 1889-2016by Margaret Hogan and finally they can call into the Box Office here at the theatre and purchase a packet of ‘Christmas Greeting From Birr’ cards with proceeds from their sale going directly to the Façade Restoration Fund.’
