Clara GAA Notes

Offaly U17 Hurlers

Clara GAA club would like to congratulate our members Cathal O’Meara, Mark Newman and Ciaran Doyle (who unfortunately missed the game due to being in America) on winning the All Ireland Division 1 Celtic Challenge final with the Offaly under 17 hurlers on Saturday last. They had a narrow single point victory over a fancied Kilkenny South team in a cracking game down at Nowlan Park. It was a proud day for ourclub to be so well represented on an Offaly hurling team by 3 key players. Well done lads.

Leinster GAA Cumann na mBunscoil

Well done to the boys from St. Francis BNS Clara whose gaelic football team travelled to Nowlan Park Kilkenny on Friday 10th June to take part in the Leinster GAA Cumann na mbunscol Gaelic football tournament. Representing Offaly and wearing the county jerseys , the Clara boys played primary school county team selections from Kilkenny West, Kilkenny East , Wexford and Laois.

Despite facing county team selections and being short a number of players due to holiday commitments, the Clara boys gave a very good account of themselves. There were good performances from all players. After the blitz was over, the boys were treated to a meal in Newpark Hotel , Kilkenny courtesy of Leinster Cumann na mbunscol. It was a great experience to play in Nowlan Park , Kilkenny and hopefully , it won’t be the last time some of these players will play there.

Thanks to Mr. Ward, Mr. Colbert , Mr. Lally who accompanied the boys to the blitz and to Leinster Cumann na mbunscol for organising the tournament.
