Over Half-a-Million People Participated In An Taisce’s National Spring Clean Campaign!

An Taisce’s National Spring Clean is coming to an end for another year and the campaign was given a proper send off as campaign ambassador Sarah McGovern was joined by the students of St. Mark’s Junior School in a massive clean-up event in Tallaght!

2016 marked the 18th year of the National Spring Clean and this was the strongest year for Ireland’s largest anti-litter initiative. Over 500,000 thousand people participated in the campaign this year, which is a 5% increase from last year’s numbers.

National Spring Clean, Chairperson, Michael John O’Mahony, commented:

“It swells me with a great amount of pride to see so many people taking time out of their busy lives to come together and help tidy up their communities. Never is the ubiquitous community spirit in Ireland more evident than during the National Spring clean campaign and I would personally like to extend a big thank you to everyone who dedicated their time to support this year’s wonderful record-setting campaign.”

The National Spring Clean campaign is organised by An Taisce and funded by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government. The National Spring Clean campaign is also sponsored by the Wrigley Company and is supported by Local Authorities who help co-ordinate clean-up activities for communities within their counties. They also provide for the disposal of all rubbish and waste materials collected.
