U16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna U16 Footballers suffered their first defeat of the Championship against the winners of the last 2 U14 Championships St Broughans in their Rd 3 encounter last Monday week in Geashill on a scoreline of 2-14 to 2-11. St Broughans were first off the mark with the opening point followed by the first goal on 7 mins before Na Fianna opened their account with a point. The sides then added a point apiece before Na Fianna struck for their first goal midway through the half when a free in midfield was worked in through the middle where it came to Ian Buckley in the square who picked his spot and blasted it to the net. This fired Na Fianna into action as they added 7 more points to St Brougans 3 over the remainder of the half to go in at the break leading 1-09 to 1-05. St Broughans came out a much improved side in the second half as they scored 1-04 without reply to retake the lead before Na  Fianna got their first point of the second half on 12 mins. St Broughans responded with the next 2 points midway through the half. The sides added a point apiece with 5 mins left before St Broughans made sure of it with their final 2 points in the last min. Then 2 mins into stoppage time Na Fianna were awarded a penalty for a pickup in the square and Colin Keogh converted it for goal no 2 but it was too late to affect the result as St Broughans held on for the win.
