DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Raheen Intermediate Footballers confirmed their place in the Semi Finals of the Div 2 League with a game to spare as they demolished Erin Rovers in their penultimate round last Tuesday week in Geashill on a scoreline of 5-12 to 0-06. Both sides got off the mark with a point apiece before Raheen struck for the first goal on 6 mins when Danny McEvoy gave a pass to Padraig Bracken in the square who rounded his man to shoot to the top corner of the net. Raheen then added 2 points to Pullough’s 1 before Raheen struck for 2 goals in a 5 min spell midway through the half to effectively decide the game, the first Paddy Rigney getting the final touch on a quick burst upfield, the next Richie Reynolds shot came off the keeper and deflected into the net by Danny McEvoy. Raheen closed out the half with another 4 points to Erin Rovers 1 which gave Raheen a healthy lead of 3-07 to 0-03 at the break. Erin Rovers had their best spell of the game in the first 10 mins of the second half as they reduced their deficit slightly as they put over 3 points to Raheen’s 1. This would be as good as it would get for the Pullough men as Raheen got in for goal no 4 on 11 mins when Paddy Rigney kept the ball in on the end line then soloed towards goal before passing to Richie Reynolds in the clear on the goal line to tap into the net. From here there was no way back as Raheen added 3 more points before a mixup on a kickout was pounced on by Richie Reynolds to fire in Raheen’s 5th goal in the 27th min and Niall Dempsey completed Raheen’s tally with the final point a min later. DIVISION 4 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Raheen Junior Footballers won their penultimate game in the group stage of the Div 4 League against St Rynaghs last Thursday evening in Geashill on a scoreline of 0-14 to 2-04. Both sides opened the scoring with a point apiece inside the first 5 mins. Raheen then edged ahead over the remainder of the half scoring 6 points to St Rynaghs 1 and so at the break Raheen led 0-07 to 0-02. Right at the start of the second half Raheen keeper James Boland made a brillant save when faced with a 1 on 1 to deny St Rynaghs a goal which would have brought them right back into it. Raheen then pushed on scoring 7 points to St Rynaghs 2 over the next 25 mins to what would look like a very comfortable win but in a dramatic last 2 mins St Rynaghs scored 2 goals to cut the lead right down, the first from a 1 on 1 that no keeper could have saved and the second from a penalty. Raheen now go into their final round of the league with an outside chance of qualifying for the semi final. Raheen then added 3 more points to K/K’s 1 before Raheen struck for their second goal on 25 mins when Damien Arnold’s shot from the edge of the square was deflected into the net by Johny Byrne. This gave Raheen a very healthy lead at the break 2-05 to 0-03. K/K got back into it as they put over 2 frees early in the second half to give themselves hope but Raheen quashed their hopes when they finally opened their second half account with a point on 18 mins and the sides wrapped it up as they began with a further 2 points apiece in the final 10 mins to complete their tally.
