INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 2

It’s 2 wins out of 2 in the Championship for Raheen Intermediate Footballers as they saw off with plenty to spare the side relegated from senior ranks last year Erin Rovers in their Rd 2 encounter last Friday evening in Clara on a scoreline of 2-11 to 0-07. Raheen opened the scoring with a point inside the first min but by the 10th min Erin Rovers had edged in front by 3 points to 2. Then in the 13th min came the turning point of the game as Raheen dispatched their first goal when Paddy Rigney’s high ball in from the wing was caught by John Crombie in front of the keeper and he scrambled over the line and into the net. The remainder of the half saw just 3 more points added, 2 to Raheen and 1 to Erin Rovers and so at the break Raheen led 1-04 to 0-04. Raheen got off to the perfect start to the second half when inside the first min Paddy Rigney took a free out on the sideline near the 45m line where it was met by the in-running John Crombie on the edge of the square where he got a fist to it to flick it over the head of the keeper into the net for goal no 2. Over the next 15 mins the sides added just 2 points apiece but this was in Raheen’s favour as it kept the lead out to 6 points. Then in the final 10 mins Raheen brought on their impact subs and they proved to be insturemental in helping Raheen seal it by adding 5 points to 2 including 1 apiece in stoppage time from Paddy Rigney and Dylan Hyland both sweetly dispatched from out on the wing around 30m out.

RAHEEN: James Boland, James Lalor, Liam Boland, Brian Corcoran, Niall Dempsey (0-01), Brian Kehoe, Chris Floody, Mick McMenamin, Padraig Bracken (0-01), Liam Gorman, Danny McEvoy, John Crombie (2-01), Paddy Rigney (0-04), Mark Gorman, Richie Reynolds (0-02).
