JUNIOR B HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 1

Raheen Hurlers made it a perfect start to the Championship for the club as alike their football counterparts they also opened the Junior B Championship campaign with a totally comprehensive win over Clara last Tuesday week in Geashill on a scoreline of 5-20 to 1-04. Raheen got stuck in straight from the throw in as they followed up the opening point with the first goal inside the opening min from Brian Kennedy.Thereafter Raheen stormed ahead for the remainder of the half as by half time the game was out of sight with Raheen leading by 2-10 to 0-01 with Ciaran Direen dispatching the second goal.Raheen emptied their bench early in the second half but they did not in any way lessen the impact on Clara as they kept up the same momentum throughout the second half adding a further 3-10 with the goals from Gary Martin, Ronan Crombie and Ian O’Halloran as Clara marginally improved their tally adding 1-03.

DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Raheen Intermediate Footballers went down to their second defeat of the League in their Rd 7 encounter against Shannonbridge in Geashill last Friday evening on a scoreline of 2-08 to 0-15. Shannonbridge had opened the scoring with their first 5 points to Raheen’s 1 before Raheen struck for their first goal on 9 mins when Padraig Bracken’s shot from midfield spilled at the feet of the keeper and flicked in by John Crombie. Shannonbridge replied with 2 points before Raheen registered goal no 2 on 19 mins when Danny McEvoy’s shot from the wing was caught by John Crombie on the edge of the square before rounding his man and cracking a shot in the top corner of the net. The final 10 mins of the half Shannonbridge pulled ahead adding 5 points to Raheen’s 1 and so at the break Shannonbridge led by 0-12 to 2-02.  Both sides added 2 more points apiece early in the second half before Raheen produced their best display of the game for 5 mins from the midpoint of the half on as they clawed their way back with 4 points in a row to draw level. Thereafter try as they might Raheen could not get ahead and then 3 mins from the end from a counter attack Shannonbridge put over what would be the winning point.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 2

Raheen Junior Footballers performance last Saturday in Round 2 of the Junior B Championship matched the dreadfully cold and wet weather conditions as they were well beaten by Kinnitty in Kinnitty on a scoreline of 1-06 to 0-03 when nothing went right for them. Raheen opened the scoring with a point inside the first min but had to wait until midway through the half for their next point during which time they had a number of good chances but could not convert them. Kinnitty only got off the mark with their first point on 19 mins but then got going for the final 10 mins of the half adding 3 more points to Raheen’s 1 to lead at the break 0-04 to 0-03. The second half was a complete write off for Raheen as they were held scoreless throughout and compounded with the sucker punch of the goal for Kinnitty on 4 mins when a looping shot dipped into the top of the net. From here Raheen could not recover as everything they tried failed as plenty of normally scoreable chances were squandered and Kinnitty sealed the win with 2 more points in the final 10 mins. Raheen must now win their final round encounter against Kilcormac / Killoughey to maintain their interest in the Championship.

RAHEEN: Mark Byrne, Eanna Direen, Stephen Byrne, Ciaran Coughlan, Johny Byrne, Sean Gorman, John Tobin, Declan Costello, Noel Gorman, Martin Nugent, Jack Keogh (0-01), Jack O’Brien, Donie Boland, Nigel Gorman (0-01), Damien Arnold (0-01).
