Clara GAA Notes

Junior B Football Championship

Clara ran out 3-9 to 1-8 winners over St. Rynaghs on Sunday last in Cloghan. The conditions made for a tough game with a strong wind and heavy downpours throughout the game. The Clara team had a great mixture of youth and experience, with some of our minor footballers shining again for the second time in as many days. The Clara team was: Mark Fallon, Ryan Kelly, Chris Dwyer, Willie Byrne, George Robbins, James Fleming, Denis Hackett, Dermot Doolin, Sean Kelly, Johnny Hanamy, Padraig Moran(1-0), Keith Dunne, Tom Naughton(0-2), James Stewart(1-4, 1-0free) and Colin Flanagan(0-3frees). Subs: Ger Rabbitte for R Kelly, Brian Minnock(1-0) for D Hackett and Brian Gavin for Keith Dunne.

Division 3 Football League

Clara travelled to Ballyfore on Saturday last and lost on a score line of 1-12 to 2-8.  Playing with a young team, we started with 5 minors, we played some good football throughout taking some good scores in what were very bad conditions for a match but just came up short losing by one point. The Clara team was: Wayne Flanagan, Martin Fleming, Richie Slammon, Evan O’Meara, George Robbins, Andrew Cushen, Dermot Doolin, Kieran O’Meara(0-3, 0-1free), Callum Stewart, Darren Fleming, John O’Hara(0-2), Stephen Buckley(1-1), Johnny Hanamy(0-1), Sean Kelly and Tom Naughton(1-1).

Division 1 Football League

Clara played St. Brigids on Friday night last in Clara. On what was a wet night with rain falling from start to finish Clara led 0-6 to 0-3 at half time. Clara played well in the conditions and continued to play good football in the second half running out winners on a score line of 0-13 to 0-6. The Clara team was: Alan Cronin, Richie Slammon, David Ledwith, Lorcan Hiney, Deasun Baggot, John Ledwith(0-1), John Flattery(0-1), Scott Brady, Paul Deehan(0-1), Liam Monaghan(0-1), Thomas Deehan, Bob Mitchell, John Reynolds(0-1), Barry Cushen(0-1) and Joey Deehan(0-7, 0-4frees). U14 Hurling League

Clara welcomed Ballyskenagh/Killavilla over to Pairc Phroinsias on Friday evening last in the U14 hurling league and lost on a score line 6-6 to 3-4. We struggled to get to the level we were at in previous games. In a very physical and sometimes dirty game we lost a bit of focus, gave away silly scores and let the opposition bring us down to a fairly scrappy level. Nevertheless we never gave up and showed some great character in trying to keep playing hurling and move the ball quickly into the forward line The scoreline is very deceiving as we were not that far off the pace. The Clara team was: Lorcan Cornally, Steven Falsey, Ronan Newman, Patrick Phelan, Conor Dolan, Cathal O’Meara, Cormac Delaney, Edward Cullen, Aodhan Moran, Shane Gavin and Kian Fitzpatrick

U10 HURLING

Clara U10 hurlers made the long trip to St. Brendans Park in Birr on Sat morning to play an U10 hurling blitz. Their first game was against Kinnitty and after a great sporting contest, Kinnitty took the spolis. Full time came just in time as a heavy shower of rain came but to our surprise a hasty decision was made to cancel the blitz. However, Kinnitty agreed to play us again and we would like to thank their mentors and players as the skies cleared, the sun even came out and lads played some lovely hurling and it was a very fruitful journey.

U10 Panel: Jamie Rowan, Conor Taylor, Lewis Kavanagh, Marcus Dalton, Callum Dunne, Barry Egan, Kevin O’Keeffe, Tommy Bracken, James Dunne, James Kelly, Neil Robbins, Brian Buckley, Conor Doyle

U8 Hurling

Our U8 hurlers travelled to Birr at the weekend to take part in a Blitz. It was a successful trip as both our U7 and U8 teams won their matches comfortably. The Panel was: Greg Byrne, Ryan Carroll, Martin Lee Coughlan, Evan Cronin, James Cullen, Jonah Devine, Liam Flynn, Kevin Gavin, Scott Griffith, Myles Handy, Aaron Kelly, Christian McKeown, Jamie Regan/Larkin, Ronan Toughey and Jimmy Dolan. Well done to all involved as it is great to see kids hurling at such a young age.
