Junior A Football Championship

Clara hosted Birr in the first round of the Junior A football championship on Sunday last at Pairc Phroinsias. This is a fixture that we would have struggled with over the past number of years as Birr have some talented footballers and have held their own at this grade for many campaigns. Clara played some lovely quick football throughout the game and came away with a fully deserved win on a score line of 1-14 to 1-5. The Clara team was: Wayne Flanagan, Martin Fleming, Darren Kelly, Gavin Carroll, Alan Gavin(1-2), Andrew Cushen, Callam Stewart, Steven O’Brien, Kieran O’Meara, John O’Hara(0-2), Peter Flanagan(0-5), Stephen Buckley, Joey Deehan(0-3, 0-1free), Darren Coughlan(0-1) and Darren Scanlon(0-1). U8 Hurling

Our U8 hurlers travelled down to Banagher on Saturday last for the first all county blitz of 2014. The U8 team won their three games against Coolderry, Kinnity and Ballinamere. The U7 team won against Drumcullen and narrowly lost out against Kilcormac/Killoughey and St. Rynaghs. The future is looking bright for hurling in Clara when we can compete and win against predominantly hurling clubs. U10 HURLING

Clara U10 hurlers travelled into O’Brien Park Tullamore last Saturday to play in an U10 hurling blitz. Clara played Tullamore A & B and Ballinamere in 3 very entertaining games. This was their first outing of the year and under the management of Tommy Lynam they showed great skill and team work and achieved 3 good wins. A big thanks to all the parents that travelled and helped cheer the boys on. Training continues every Tues & Thurs with another hurling blitz fixed for Sat 10th of May in Birr

Minor Hurling League
Clara defeated Tullamore on Wednesday night last in Clara on a score line of 0-18 to 0-2. The Clara team was: Darren Fleming, Jonathon Hanamy, Leon Egan, Ryan Kelly, Dermot Doolin, Colm Doyle, Callam Egan, Stephen Buckley (0-2), Seamus O’Brien (0-2), Mark Newman (0-1), Martin Fleming (0-4, 0-2frees), Adam Dolan (0-4), David Newman (0-1), Alan Gavin (0-4) and Mark Fallon Subs: Ciaran Doyle for M Fallon, Lorcan Cowan for D Newman and Nathan Bracken for M Newman.

Senior Football Championship

Clara lost to Rhode in the Senior Football Championship on Saturday evening last in O’Connor Park on a score line of 4-20 to 0-10. The Clara team was:Alan Cronin, Richie Slammon, John Ledwith, Lorcan Hiney, Liam Monaghan, Ross Brady(0-1), John Flattery, Scott Brady, Graham Guilfoyle(0-1, 45), Stephen Deehan(0-3, 0-1free), John Reynolds, Caomhan Sheridan, Thomas Deehan(0-5frees), Barry Cushen and Paul Deehan. Subs:Deasun Baggot for C Sheridan and David Ledwith for P Deehan

U 16 Football league:
Clara defeated Ferbane/ Belmont in Ferbane on Tuesday evening last on a score line of 3-17 to 2- 9. Clara trailed at half time on a score line of 2-8 to1-6 but put in a very strong second half performance out scoring 2-10 to 0-1 giving Clara a well deserved win.

WEEKLY CLUB LOTTO

Lotto results 26/04/14 Numbers drawn were 2-4-7-9. There was no winner of the Jackpot this week. There were 12 match 3 winners. They were: Dermot Kenny, Pat Lawler, Abbie and David Minnock, Terence O’Brien, Bridgie and Jimmy Doyle, Mary Scally, Shaun Greville, Katie May Newman, Joe Rock, Triona Connolly, B Lowry and Alan Lowry. Next week’s draw is for €7,100 and takes place in Cowens at 10pm on Saturday night. Tickets are available from committee members and in premises throughout the town priced at €1.50. Monster Bingo

Clara GAA will be holding a Monster Bingo on Sunday 11th May. There will be €4,500 in prize money on the night
