DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Raheen Intermediate Footballers made it 2 wins out of 2 in the Div 2 League as they just about shaded it against Daingean in their Rd 2 encounter last Friday evening in Geashill on a scoreline of 0-10 to 1-05. Raheen had the advantage of the strong breeze in the first half and it proved to be decisive as they got going straight from the off getting off the mark with the first 5 points inside 10 mins and they added 2 more points before Daingean opened their account with a point on 20 mins. The remainder of the half saw Raheen put over 2 more points to Daingean’s 1 and so at the break Raheen led 0-09 to 0-02. From the restart Daingean began to fight back first with a goal followed by 3 points in a row by the 10th min which cut the deficit back to the minimum but this would prove to be their last score of the game and Raheen wrapped up the win with their only score of the second half a pointed free from Padraig Bracken on 20 mins.

DIVISION 4 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Raheen Junior Footballers also got their 2014 playing campaign off to a winning start as they edged out a tight encounter against neighbours Walsh Island in Round 1 of the Div 4 League last Sunday afternoon in Geashill on a scoreline of 3-05 to 2-07. It was 2 points to 1 to Walsh Island when Raheen struck for 2 goals within a minute on 10 mins, the first from Nigel Gorman who reacted quickest when Liam Gorman’s shot was spilled by the keeper, the second from Keith Quinn who work his way through the middle to dispatch his shot to the net. Walsh island replied immediately with a goal of their own from Pat Gallagher. The remainder of the half saw both sides add 2 more points apiece and so at the break Raheen led 2-03 to 1-04. Walsh Island were first off the mark in the second half with a point but Raheen extended their lead on 4 mins with their 3rd goal when corner forward Fintan Pierce caught a high ball on the edge of the square, turned and shot to the net. Walsh Island hit back with their second goal on 12 mins from a penalty and this is how it remained until the final 10 mins when both sides added 2 more points to see Raheen claim the win by the minimum margin.
