MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL

Na Fianna Minor Footballers bowed out of this year’s Championship at the Quarter Final stage with defeat to Shamrocks last Sunday morning in Mucklagh on a scoreline of 1-18 to 2-00 in a game played in a torrential downpour throughout. Na Fianna who were without their U16 contingent as they prepare for their upcoming football and hurling semi finals were always going to be up against it and so it proved to be. Shamrocks opened the scoring with the first 2 points before Na Fianna got off the mark in the 9th min when Shane Dolan dispatched a penalty to the left corner of the net after Declan Byrne was brought down which put Na Fianna in front. Shamrocks responded by hitting 1-03 before Na Fianna got on the scoreboard again in the 22nd min when they were awarded their second penalty. This time Shane Dolan struck his shot to the right corner of the net. The remainder of the half saw Shamrocks add 4 more points including 3 frees and so at the break Shamrocks led 1-08 to 2-00. In the second half Na Fianna  had a number of chances but could not get the finishing touch to add to their tally as Shamrocks were more accurate with their chances adding 10 points without reply to wrap it up.
