ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF HURLING

Last Sunday morning, Clara underage hurlers played Shamrocks in U7, U8, U10, U12 and U14 hurling matches on the 5 pitches in Clara. It was a great sight to see with all of the pitches been used and great entertainment to see for all parents and grandparents. We would like to thank all the mentors and parents involved, especially John Kearney from Shamrocks who organized his end of it and to our field committee who had everything prepared and looking so well. This is a great example of how to promote hurling in the county.

MINOR HURLING QUARTER-FINAL REPLAY

Our minor hurlers lost out to Lusmagh on a very well prepared Lusmagh pitch last Sunday week in a replay after a very entertaining game of hurling. Clara never gave up and scored some great scores but Lusmagh were the better team and had some great individual players. They are a credit to the GAA especially as they have such a small pick. The timing of this game however clashed with the All-Ireland football final and it was disappointing that we had to miss the second half of the final to be in Lusmagh for 5.30.
Minor panel Glen Cunningham, Ryan Kelly, Leon Egan, Niall Keenan, Callum Egan, Colm Doyle, Liam Doyle, Darren Fleming, Alan Gavin, Mark Fallon, Seamus O’Brien, Stephen Buckley, Adam Dolan, Martin Fleming, Carl Stewart, David Newman

U16 HURLING SEMI-FINAL

Our U16 hurlers were fixed to play Farbane/Belmont 2 days after our minor quarter-final at 5.45 in Moystown on Tuesday evening last. This was very disappointing with 6 players crossing over and we tried hard to have the match changed to Thurs night, at same time as the corresponding semi-final in Rahan but alas the fixture stood. Leaving Clara at 4.45 on a school/work day was not ideal preparation and throw in the fact that we were short Dermot Doolin, Denis Hackett and David Falsey (injured at school training) it was always going to be hard especially as we were playing Ferbane/ Belmont who had dropped down from A hurling. However the lads played their hearts out but were always chasing the game after 2 excellent early goals from Ferbane/Belmont. Clara scored some lovely points in the second half from Seamus O’Brien and Stephen Buckley and in defence goalie Glen Cunningham, Colm Doyle, Callum Egan and Ryan Kelly all had great games even though these 6 lads had played a tough minor match only 48 hrs previous.

Next Sunday October 6th we will hosting a monster bingo in Clara GAA Social Centre, The Star, with €4,500 in prizes. If you havent been in a while come along and bring a friend as it promises to be a great night for all.
