JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP – FINAL ROUND

Raheen Junior Footballers sailed into the knockout stage of the Junior B Championship with a comfortable win over Tullamore in the final round last Monday week in Geashill on a scoreline of 0-15 to 2-06 in a game which Raheen controlled for most of.  Tullamore opened the scoring with the first point on 5 mins but Raheen opened their account immediately with a point. Over the next 15 mins Raheen edged ahead scoring 3 points to 1. Then on 20 mins Tullamore  snook back in front by scoring their 1st goal when a dipping shot across goal flew into the top corner of the net. Raheen came back in the final 10 mins of the half scoring 4 points to 1 which gave them the lead at the break by 0-08 to 1-03. The first 20 mins of the second half saw Raheen extend their lead adding 5 points but Tullamore kept in touch with 3 points of their own. Then on 23 mins Tullamore came right back into it as a quick break upfield saw them get in to score their second goal to bring Raheen’s lead back to the minimum but in stoppage time Raheen dug deep to fire over the final 2 points to wrap it up and claim the win.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP – FINAL ROUND

Raheen Intermediate Footballers restored some pride with a deserved win over Kilcormac / Killoughey in the final round of the group stage of the Championship last Friday evening in Killurin on a scoreline of 1-12 to 2-06 which although too late to qualify for the quarter finals gives some confidence going into the upcoming relegation play-off. Raheen got off to a bad start as 2 mins in Kilcormac / Killoughey opened the scoring with a goal when a high ball in was caught by Daniel Currams in the clear on the edge of the square who  ran in and fired his shot in the top corner of the net. Raheen although rattled dug in and got going and over the next 10 mins got off the mark with 7 points in a row. This was how it remained then until the 25th min when K/K put over their first point and just a min later K/K were awarded a penalty for a pull on the jersey which they struck to the left corner of the net. There were no further scores before the break which left the sides level at halftime 0-07 to 2-01.  Raheen went back in front 2 mins into the second half with a pointed free from Patrick Rigney. From the resultant kickout the ball was won by Declan Byrne in midfield who laid it off to John Crombie to run down the wing and into the square where he passed it to Patrick Rigney in the clear who picked his spot and blasted it onto the net for a goal. K/K came back with 2 pointed 45’s before Raheen put over their next point from Mark Gorman midway through the half.  The remainder of the game saw the sides exchange 3 more points apiece and so Raheen held on to claim the win.
