DIVISION 3 HURLING LEAGUE

Raheen Hurlers were beaten by Ballinamere in their Div 3 League encounter last Monday week in Ballinamere on a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-08. The hot conditions which prevailed meant both sides were slow to get going and by the  mid point of the first half Ballinamere had opened up a lead of 4 points to 1 then putting over a free before the game clinching moment came in the 24th min when Ballinamere were awarded a penalty which they struck to the net for the only goal. Both sides completed the half with 2 points apiece which left Ballinamere leading at the break 1-07 to 0-08. Raheen needed a good start to the second half but it was Ballinamere who were first off the mark with 2 points before Raheen opened their second half account on 7 mins. with a point. The next 15 mins saw Ballinamere wrap it as they added 7 points to Raheen’s 3. Raheen completed the scoring with the final point 3 mins from time but it was too little too late.

DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Raheen Intermediate Footballers completed the group stage of the Div 2 League with a tough win against Clonbullogue in Geashill last Tuesday week on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-07 which leaves Raheen in contention for a place in the Semi Finals depending on the results of the outstanding games of the other teams around them in the table.   Clonbullogue made the early running as they opened up a lead of 3 points to 2 after 10 mins. In the 14th min Raheen took the lead for the first time, a lead they would hold onto for the rest of the game, when an overhead shot into the square landed in front of Mark Gorman who found himself in the clear with just the keeper to beat which he did to blast his shot to the net for the first goal. This was the confidence booster Raheen needed and it showed as they added 3 more points to Clonbullogue ‘s 1 for the remainder of the half to give Raheen a lead of 1-05 to 0-04 at the break. Both sides added a point apiece early in the second half before Raheen clinched it by grabbing their second goal on 11 mins when the Clonbullogue keeper dropped the ball and John Crombie reacted quickest to tap it into the net. Both sides then added 2 points apiece before Clonbullogue got themselves back into the game on 22 mins when they they struck for their only goal. This would be as close as they would get as Raheen wrapped it up in the time remaining by putting over the final 2 points.

JUNIOR B HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Raheen Hurlers made it 2 wins in a row in the Junior B Championship as they easily accounted for Kilcormac / Killoughey in their Round 3 encounter last Friday evening in Kilcormac on a scoreline of 3-09 to 0-04. Raheen were hoping for a good start and they certainly got the perfect one here as they opened the scoring with a goal inside the first min when  Keith Quinn picked up the ball on the sideline about 30m out and went on a solo run all the way into the square brushing aside challenges as he did before planting the ball in the net. Raheen then added their first 2 points either side of K/K’s opening point. Then on 4 mins Raheen had goal no 2 when Paddy Rigney won the ball inside the 45, broke through to the edge of the square where he laid it off to Keith Quinn unmarked in the square who blasted it to the net. The remainder of the half saw Raheen add 3 more points to K/K’s 1 and Raheen were unlucky not to have at least 3-4 more goals. This left Raheen leading comfortably at the break 2-05 to 0-02.  Raheen increased their lead with the first 2 points of the second half before registering their 3rd goal on 4 mins when Dean Pierce excelently struck a long pass down the sideline which was superbly caught (which an intercounty player would be proud of ) by Keith Quinn  on the sideline before taking off on a run all the way into the square where he buried it into the net to complete his hatrick. This is how the scoreboard remained until the final 10mins when first K/K added their only 2 points of the half before Raheen sub Ian O’Halloran showed what he can do has he excellently struck over the final 2 points, the second of which struck from over 30m out near the sideline.
