Na Fianna GAA Club Notes

U16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna U16 Footballers are through to the Championship Quarter Finals with a round  still to play as they made it 3 wins out of 3 with another comprehensive win against Gracefield in Gracefield last Monday week on a scoreline of 4-16 to 2-10. Na Fianna opened the scoring with a point and Gracefield then got off the mark with their first 2 points before Na Fianna struck for their first goal on 5 mins when Dylan Hyland made a run in from the wing before passing to Colm McDermott on the edge of the square to shoot past the keeper to the net. Na Fianna edged clear tagging on 4 points to 2 before Gracefield got right back into it midway through the half by scoring their first goal which was saved initially but knocked in on the rebound. The remaining time in the first half saw Na Fianna edge clear again with another brace of 4 points to 2 and so at the break Na Fianna were just shading it 1-09 to 1-06 despite dominating possession. Both sides added a point apiece early in the second half before Gracefield drew level on 11 mins when they got in to score their second goal. Their joy was short lived as both sides first added a point each before Na Fianna registered their second goal midway through the half when Jack O’Brien made a good solo run in from near midfield  before fisting it to John Tobin who had just come on as a sub seconds earlier who blasted the ball to the net with his first touch. Na Fianna added another point followed by goal no 3 when Colm McDermott sent in a high ball to the square which Dylan Hyland caught and turned to shoot low to the net. Na Fianna were on a roll now and were not going to be stopped as they added 2 more points without reply before Dylan Hyland got in to score his second and Na Fianna’s 4th goal with just over 10 mins remaining. With the win now in the bag Na Fianna could afford to use their full quota of subs and so the remaining mins saw both sides complete their tally with 2 points apiece.
