DIVISION 3 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Raheen Junior Footballers  suffered their first defeat of the year against Tullamore last Monday week in Geashill in the Div 3 League on a scoreline of 2-09 to 2-05. The first half was a tight affair and at the break Tullamore were just shading it by 0-05 to 0-03. Raheen made a fine start to the second half first with a pointed free followed on 4 mins by their opening goal sent directly to the net from a free just inside the 45m line by Liam Gorman. Tullamore opened their second half account with a pointed free before Raheen struck for their second goal on 10 mins when Willie Stynes was on the goal line to jump and meet a high ball in to punch it to the net. This put Raheen 4 points up but the remainder of the game belonged to Tullamore as they turned it round scoring 2-03 without reply including a penalty to go in front. Raheen put over a free in stoppage time but it was too little too late.

Raheen Junior Footballers opened their 2013 Junior B Championship campaign with a defeat to Tubber in Tubber last Saturday evening on a scoreline of 2-09 to 0-09. Tubber started the brighter and were 4 points to 2 up midway through the first half before they struck for their first goal on 20 mins. Raheen clawed their way back with the next 4 points in a row from Darren Monagher, Liam Gorman, Karol O’Byrne and Garrett Garry to leave just the minimum in it at the break 1-04 to 0-06.  Tubber increased their lead early in the second half adding 2 points to 1. Then on 12 mins came the turning point of the game when Tubber were awarded a penalty as Eana Direen had no choice but to bring down his man who was about to shoot for a goal and the penalty was struck to the corner of the net for their 2nd goal. Tubber added 2 more points before Raheen were dealt another blow when Garrett Garry was unluckly sent off after picking up a second yellow. Both sides added just 1 more point apiece in the remaining minutes.
