DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Raheen Intermediate Footballers got their 4th win in succession on a scoreline of 4-04 to 1-10 but were made fight all the way by Kilclonfert in their Div 2 League encounter last Saturday evening in Kilclonfert. Raheen got off to the ideal start when Paddy Rigney’s opening point was followed up on 2 mins with the first goal when a line ball was passed to John Crombie out on the wing who worked it into the square before laying it off to Willie Stynes to finish it to the net. Raheen added a point from Paddy Rigney before getting in for their second goal on 12 mins when a breaking ball about 20m out landed in front of Richie Reynolds who soloed it in before blasting it to the top corner of the net. Kilclonfert then got off the mark with 2 points midway though the half before getting through to score their goal just over 5 mins later followed by 2 more points before the end of the half. This left Raheen leading by just the minimum at the break 2-02 to 1-04. Kilclonfert drew level with a pointed free at the start of the second half. Raheen were back in front on 4 mins when Paddy Rigney won a penalty which he stepped up take himself and coolly blasted it dead centre to the net for goal no 3. Kilclonfert put over another free on 11 mins but from the resultant kickout Raheen worked the ball quickly downfield with Richie Reynolds getting through to crack in Raheen’s 4th goal and he tagged on a point before Paddy Arnold completed Raheen’s tally with the final point 5 mins later. Kilclonfert staged a mini fightback with the final 4 points as Raheen held on to claim the win but were dealt a blow when midfielder Padraig Bracken was sent off in the final min.
