Clara GAA Club Notes

CLARA GAA GATHERING EVENTS 2013

This June Bank Holiday Weekend will see a full packed schedule for all our members, family, friends and those abroad who are returning to celebrate the traditions and history of our club.
On Saturday June 1st we will be travelling to the home of GAA, Croke Park to cheer on our county footballers in the Leinster Championship. We will be running a bus from Pairc Phrionsias and we can supply match tickets also. Places will be limited so contact Chris Cullen for more information. After the game we will be hosting an event in the town.
On Sunday we will be hosting La na Club in Pairc Phrionsias. This will include matches for our underage and adult teams. There will  be ceol agus craic for everyone and Clara GAA are proud to announce that we will be naming our hurling wall..“The Donal O’Coinin Hurling Wall” . Donal was an important part of our club and this is a fitting tribute to him. We hope to see as many of our friends from abroad for this special occasion.
On Monday we will be having our annual golf classic and once again is sure to be a great day out. Brian Gavin is organising the day but if anybody is booking a tee time please contact any of our committee members.

CLARA BALLAD GROUP

On Friday last we hosted a table quiz in Docs and we want to thank all those who supported the night. This was a vital fundraiser for the successful Clara Ballad Group who will be competing in the All-Ireland Final this Saturday 27th in Derry. We want to wish them every success and best wishes as they travel up.

ARD SCOIL CHIARAIN IN THE LEINSTER FINAL

On Thursday last Ard Scoil travelled to Newbridge to face Presentation College Bray in the
football Leinster Junior Final. It was a typical Irish day and on arrival the team knew they would be facing the elements as well as a physically powerful Bray outfit. Bray started the sharper and scored after 20 seconds but Ard Scoil had plenty of early chances to take the lead but a combination of nerves and sheeting rain meant the scoreboard never really reflected the equality of both teams. After 17 mins it looked bleak for Ard Scoil as they trailed by 6 points to 1. However the determination of Stephen Buckley and Colm Doyle worked wonders and Ard Scoil dragged themselves back into the tie just before halftime with a point from Martin Fleming and a super goal from Luke Dignam, halftime Ard Scoil trailed by 8 points to 1-2. A quick second half goal from Bray meant they regained a six point lead but this Clara team wouldnt lie down and second by second, inch by inch began to wear away at this big physical team. What happened in the last 15 mins will be etched in folklore for many a year to come as Ard Scoil, drawing on the spirit of past glories grew into men and played the style of football which is synonymous with Clara, fast quick ball. This paid dividends as they outscored their opponents by 9 points to 1 in this period. The final whistle brought great scenes of celebration as a Leinster title returned to Clara. Clara GAA wishes to thank the school for all its hard work throughout the year especially Brian Gavin, Larry Lynam, Eric Deehan and Michael Mullen. Well done to the entire playing panel.
