Clara GAA Indoor Hurling League 2013 Round 3

Clara GAA Indoor Hurling League 2013 Round 3

Round 3 of the league threw-in last Tuesday in the GAA Social Centre to an eagerly assembled group of parents and supporters from all over our town. All 3 games were end to end stuff and delighted the watching families.
Woodfield v Kilcoursey
The first game of the night saw league leaders Woodfield go up against the determined Kilcoursey. Both teams began strongly with the first half keepers John Guilfoyle and Dylan Minnock acquitting themselves well but a 4 goal blast from Woodfields Conor Doyle rattled Kilcoursey who had no reply despite the stern efforts of Luke Finn and Lorcan Dalton in defence. Kilcoursey went in 4 nil down at the break but emerged the stronger and Keelyn Conroy replied with 2 great goals to half the deficit and when Liam Flynn drew the sides level with 3 mins to go it looked like Kilcoursey would get their first points of the league. But luck went against them and a great goal by Dylan Deehan and Evan Cronins late strikes meant Woodfield won out by 7 goals to 4. Brilliant match with Callum Heffernan and P.J Looby standing out for both sides.
Aughamore v Clashawaun
Aughamore went into this game on the back of 2 narrow defeats while Clashawaun had already a win under their belts.  Both sides played lovely strong hurling with the backs of Alex Handy,Kevin Gavin, Myles Handy and Callum Bracken all performing well. It was however, to be Clashawauns half as they powered into a 5 nil half time lead through Ben Kennedy and Greg Byrne. Aughamore refused to let their heads drop and a solid teamtalk inspired them and James Cullen scored 2 quick goals followed by a Ryan Handy special to give them hope. Despite battering the Clashawaun goal Aughamore could not draw level and a last minute strike from Brian Buckley meant Clashawaun won out on a scoreline of 6-3. Jimmy Sherlock was the star for Clashawaun while Alex Goulart shone brightest for Aughamore.
Ballinough v Kilbride
Wherever you were last Tuesday you couldnt have been in any better place as the crowd who witnessed this classic will testify. 4 goals in the first minute saw Ballinough gain control but once Kilbride woke up they went goal crazy, no less than 6 seperate scorers saw them go in to the break 6-4 up. Conor Taylor, Kevin o’ Keefe, Darragh McKeon, and Eoin Phelan of Kilbride were simply top class. Ballinoughs Dylan Wier who single handedly kept Kilbride at bay in the first half must have wondered how they were behind at the break. The second half however was no less exciting with Brian Hogan and Jack Devine inspiring Ballinough to parity and when Hugh Handy and James Kelly added late scores Kilbride simply ran out of time. Ballinough won on a scoreline of 10-7, a real end to end classic. Ronan Touhey and Cian Cornally had great games.
