U16 FOOTBALL LEAGUE SEMI FINAL
This year’s playing campaign for Na Fianna U16 Footballers was brought to an end last Monday week when they
were beaten by Edenderry in the Semi Final of the League in Gracefield on a scoreline of 1-07 to 0-08 played
in an incessant downpour throughout until late in the second half. Edendery adapted to the dreadful conditions
quicker as they opened the scoring with the first point from a free on 3 mins. In the 6th min a goalmouth scramble
saw Edenderry finish the ball to the net for the only goal. Edenderry then added 3 more points in a row before
Shane Dolan’s point got Na Fianna off the mark in the 23rd min. The sides then exchanged a point apiece before
Dylan Hyland put over a free in the last min which left Edenderry leading at the break by 1-05 to 0-03. Edenderry
extended their lead with a pointed free in the 2nd min. Moments later Na Fianna had a great chance to get right
back into it when awarded a penalty for a footblock but Shane Dolan’s shot was saved by the keeper and 2 further
goal chances for Na Fianna went abegging. As the overhead conditions cleared up Na Fianna gradually began to
claw their way back into it hitting over 5 points without reply from Liam Langton, Jack O’Brien, Dylan Hyland,
Ryan Guinan and James Lalor to leave just the minimum between them with less than 5 mins to go. Then in the
final min Edenderry wrapped it up as they put over what was only their second point of the second half but it was
enough or them to claim the win. Na Fianna Football Club would like to thank all our U16 players and management
for the many hours of entertainment they have given throughout this year and look forward to seeing you all back
representing the club on the playing field next year.

After the disappointment of their Championship Semi Final Na Fianna Minor Footballers return to action when they
take on the side who ended their Championship ambitions Tullamore in the Minor League Semi Final this Saturday
(27th Oct) @ 3PM in Gracefield. Best of Luck to Players & Management. All Support would be Appreciated.
