INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL

It will be another season in Intermediate ranks for Raheen Footballers as they were knocked out of the Intermediate Championship at the Semi Final stage for the third year in a row following defeat to Ballyfore last Saturday evening in O’Connor Park, Tullamore on a scoreline of 0-13 to 1-05. Raheen opened the scoring with a point from Richie Reynolds on 5 mins but Ballyfore got going and opened their account with  4 points in a row (3 from frees). Then on 20 mins Raheen drew level by striking the game’s only goal when a 45 taken by Paddy Rigney was blocked down on the line and dropped where it was picked up by Richie Reynolds who rounded his man and smashed the ball to the net.Ballyfore went back in front with another pointed free but Damien Arnold drew Raheen level with a point in the final minute and so at the break it was level pegging 1-05 to 0-05. In the opening 10 mins of the second half Raheen went in front twice with points from Jack Keogh and Richie Reynolds but each time Ballyfore hit back with a point to level it up. Then Ballyfore went 2 points clear before Raheen brought it back to 1 with a point from Brian Crombie in the 17th min but Ballyfore sent over another score a min later to bring it back to a 2 point game and this is how it remained until the last 2 mins when Ballyfore wrapped it up with the final 3 points without reply to secure their place in the final where they will take on last year’s beaten finalist’s St Brigids.
