Na Fianna GAA Club Notes

U16 FOOTBALL LEAGUE PLAY OFF

Na Fianna U16 Footballers like their Minor counterparts have also qualified for their League Semi Finals as they brushed aside the challenge of neighbours St Vincents in their final play off encounter last Monday week in Walsh Island on a scoreline of 5-10 to 1-08. Na Fianna got off to the ideal start as they struck for goal on 5 mins to open the scoring when an overhead shot by Jack O’Brien picked out Shane Dolan in the square who fired his shot to the net. The next 15 mins saw Na Fianna put over 3 points as St Vincents got off the mark with 2 points. Then on 21 mins Mark Garry made a run through the middle to strike Na Fianna’s second goal. St Vincents then put over 2 frees either side of a point for Na Fianna before Na Fianna finished the half as they had started when Shane Dolan blasted in his second and Na Fianna’s third goal in stoppage time to give Na Fianna a comfortable lead at the break by 3-04 to 0-04. Na Fianna were first off the mark with the opening point of the second half before St Vincents got back into it first with their goal followed by 2 points which had the deficit down to 5 points by the 10th min. This would be as close as they would get as Na Fianna got back on track with 4 points in a row before James Lalor made a run through to blast in Na Fianna’s 4th goal on 20 mins to end any hopes of a comeback. St Vincents did add 2 more points but in stoppage time Na Fianna wrapped it up with their final point followed by Shane Dolan completing his hat-trick when he blasted in Na Fianna’s fifth goal. Na Fianna now go into the sem final; draw alongside Ferbane / Belmont, Tullamore and Shamrocks.
