The Carers Association celebrates 25th Anniversary at Aras an Uachtarain

Family Carers from across the country attended a special reception at Aras
an Uachtarain on Tuesday 12th June hosted by President Higgins. The special
invitation was extended to celebrate The Carers Association 25th
Anniversary. Over these 25 years The Carers Association has been providing
vital supports and services to family carers across the country as well as
lobbying for their rights and entitlements.  2012 will see the long awaited
publishing of a National Carers Strategy which is something that the
Association and family carers have lobbied Government on for many years.

President Higgins and wife Sabina warmly welcomed over 120 Family Carers to
the Aras on what was a really enjoyable day.  The Carers Association
presented President Higgins with a specially commissioned 25th Anniversary
Candle at the reception after a wonderful and heartfelt speech by President
Higgins.

The Carers Association Carer of the Year, Peter Riordan and Young Carers of
the Year Amanda and Sam Norris attended the event and met privately with
President Higgins. It was a splendid occasion for all Family Carers who
really enjoyed the opportunity to visit Aras an Uachtarain.

President Higgins also welcomed the commencement of National Carers Week in
his speech, highlighting the importance of recognising the work Family
Carers provide with love each day.

Carers Week takes place from Monday 18th – Sunday 24th June with a host of
events taking place across the country. The Carers Association urges all
Family Carers to get involved during Carers Week. For further details on
