U16 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Na Fianna U16 Footballers suffered their first defeat of the year last Monday week when they lost out to Rhode Og in Rhode on a scoreline of 6-07 to 4-09 in Round 2 of the U16 Football League. Despite conceeding the first point Na Fianna went in front with the opening goal inside 3 mins when Shane Dolan was given a hand pass in over the full back which put him in the clear to shoot to the net . Na Fianna then put over their first 6 points with Rhode replying with 2 points before a quick break upfield saw Rhode get in for their first goal withe just over 10 mins left in the half. Na Fianna responded immediately by scoring their second goal when Dylan Hyland caught a high ball in from the wing turned and shot it to the net and moments later Na Fianna looked to be on their way to a win when Mark Garry broke through to score their 3rd goal. Rhode tagged on another point in the final min and so at half time Na Fianna held an apparently comfortable lead of 3-06 to 1-04. Disaster struck for Na Fianna in the first 15 mins of the second half as turned it right round scoring 4-03 without reply to lead by 7 points. Then Kevin Kinahan got in to score Na Fianna’s 4th goal with just over 10 mins left which turned the momentum back in favour of Na Fianna and they added 3 more points without reply to trail by just 1 but on the stroke of full time Rhode scored their 6th goal to seal the win.
