U16 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Na Fianna U16 Footballers got their 2012 playing campaign off to the perfect start with an exhibition of a display to comprehensively beat Ballycumber / Tubber in the opening round of the inaugural U16 Football League last Monday week in Ballinagar on a scoreline of 3-21 to 0-02. Playing against the strong breeze in the first half Na Fianna were in complete control as they opened up an 8 point to 1 lead before their dominance was rewarded with the opening goal just on the stroke of half time coolly finished by James Lalor which gave Na Fianna a lead of 1-08 to 0-01 at the break. In the second half Na Fianna kept up the same pace adding another 11 points with Ballycumber / Tubber  adding just 1 point before Na Fianna got through to score their second and third goals within a minute with under 10 mins remaining, the first finished by top scorer Mark Garry and the other by super sub Shane Dolan. Na Fianna completed the rout with the final 2 points in the remaining minutes to wrap up the win.

U14 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna U14 Footballers got off to the ideal start to this year’s Championship campaign getting a comprehensive opening round win over neighbours St Broughans last Friday evening in Geashill on a scoreline of 7-06 to 2-09. The damage was done in the first half as Na Fianna got through to score 4 goals, finished by David Buckley (2), Colin Keogh and Kayelyn Thompson, all of which came in similar fashion as dipping shots from outside the square were lobbed in over the head of the St Broughans keeper who may have been hindered by the setting sun into his eyes.St Broughans did get a goal of their own in the first half when they converted a penalty and so at the break Na Fianna held a comfortable lead of 4-02 to 1-03. To make a game of it St Broughans needed to make a good start to the second half and this they did when inside the first 10 mins they got through to score 1-04 with Na Fianna adding just 1 point which cut Na Fianna’s lead down to just 2 points. This would be as close as St Broughans would come as over the next 10 mins Na Fianna steadied the ship and pulled clear again by scoring 2-02 without reply, the first goal coming when the keeper parried a shot which was gladly taken by Colin Keogh to shoot to the net, the second goal coming when a shot came off the crossbar and Ian Buckley was on hand to dispatch the ball to the net. There would be no way back for St Broughans in the final 10 mins which saw them only manage 2 more points as Na Fianna managed to score their 7th goal finished by Colin Keogh which completed his hattrick  along with the final point in stoppage time from David Buckley.

NA FIANNA: Shane Gorry, Samuel Byrne, Adam Kelly, Peter Walsh, Reece Seery, Cathal Curran, Stephen Pierce, Robert Miller (0-02), John Ridgeway, Ray Daly (0-01), David Buckley (2-03), Kayelyn Thompson (1-00), Ian Buckley (1-00), Colin Keogh (3-00), Conor O’Meara.
