JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Raheen Hurlers put in a much improved performance but unfortunately suffered another defeat this time against Seir Kieran in Geashill last Thursday evening in the penultimate game of the group stage of the Junior Championship on a scoreline of 2-11 to 3-11. Seir Kieran got the start they wanted as they opened their account with a goal inside 2 mins but by the mid point of the half Raheen had got off the mark and gone in front with 4 points in a row from Michael James Pierce (2) and Jason Hassett (2). The remainder of the half saw Clareen score another 4 points to Raheen’s 3 from Colm Pidgeon and Jason Hassett (2) which left the sides level at the break, 1-04 to 0-07. Both sides added another point early in the second half before Raheen chalked up their first goal on 5 mins when a low shot came off the keeper and was then buried in the net by Colm Pidgeon. Over the next 15 mins Clareen came back and drew level scoring 1-04 with Raheen replying with 3 points from Ciaran Direen (2) and Tony O’Toole. Then with 5 mins left Raheen went back in front when a goalmouth scramble saw Eana Direen get the final touch as he flicked in Raheen’s second goal but within 2 mins Clareen were awarded a 20m free which they shot to the net and followed it up with a pointed  free a minute later to seal the win.
