Special Bosco Performance at Unlock the Adventure at Lough Boora, 12th June 2011

Bosco

Bord na Móna together with Rehab are delighted to announce that there will be two live performances by everyone’s favourite puppet, Bosco, at ‘Unlock the Adventure at Lough Boora’ which takes place on Sunday, 12th June at The Lough Boora Parklands in Co. Offaly.  This fun-filled family event, now in its second year, runs from 12 noon to 5pm and offers a range of activities for all ages including guided bike tours, face painting, treasure hunts, arts and crafts, zorbing, kite flying, live music plus much more. The event is the highlight of the Rehab Waterways Adventure in Association with Bord na Móna, a voyage around the inland waterways of Ireland by the heritage boat, the Nieuwe Zorgen, on an awareness and fundraising adventure for Rehab.

There will be two live free performances by Bosco and friends during the event at 1.30pm and shortly after 3pm.  The show promises to be a memorable experience with fun and laughter for all. Bosco, the red-haired cheeky puppet, rose to fame in the 1980s with his preschool educational children’s programme on RTÉ. In recent years Bosco has toured the country with the Lambert Puppet Theatre, entertaining a whole new audience of children. The Lambert Puppet Theatre has been Ireland’s favourite children’s entertainment since 1972 when it was founded by Eugene Lambert.

Another key attraction on the day will be The Great Dragonfly Hunt, which has been specially created for the event. The mother Dragonfly will perform three times over the course of the day, releasing her (pretend) baby Dragonflies into the crowd. Children will be invited to help rescue the baby Dragonflies before the hunters catch them. Also the Nieuwe Zorgen, will be docked at the nearby village of Pollagh and visitors can avail of a free shuttle bus to and from the main event to visit the boat.

Located a little over an hour’s drive from Dublin (just off the N52 Tullamore to Birr Road), the Lough Boora Parklands are owned by Bord na Móna and demonstrate the company’s commitment to long-term environmental concerns, bio-diversity and its “contract with nature” philosophy. The parklands consist of a magnificent collection of natural and man-made lakes, along with 50km of walkways and pastureland that provide a new habitat for flora and fauna.
