Raheen Intermediate Footballers began their 2011 Championship campaign last Friday evening in Gracefield against the side relegated from Senior ranks last year St Brigids but disappointingly it was St Brigids who came out on top on a scoreline of 0-16 to 1-09. The opening 10 minutes saw both sides get off the mark with 2 points apiece but for the remainder of the half St Brigids gradually pulled ahead and so by half time the Croghan men led by 0-09 to 0-05. Over the first 15 mins of the second half both sides added another 3 points each. Then in the 18th min Raheen struck for the only goal of the game to cut the deficit to a single point bringing themselves right back into it. Unfortunately Raheen could not find the equaliser and in the remaining time they added just 1 more point while St Brigids pulled clear scoring 4 points to seal the win. On the positive side there are still 5 more rounds to go through to try and qualify for the quarter finals.
