Engegård Quartet Visit Boosts Cloughjordan Development as a Music Hub

Wednesday, 6 April, Norway?s renowned Engegård Quartet will visit Cloughjordan as part of their Irish tour. Formed under the midnight sun in Lofoten in 2006, the Engegård Quartet rapidly became one of the most sought after ensembles in Norway. The Engegård Quartet tour Scandinavia regularly and perform throughout Europe. Their first CD of string quartets, released in 2008, was acclaimed by reviewers, and their subsequent releases have received excellent reviews.

Cloughjordan is developing as a place to go in north Tipp for a range of music to suit all tastes. From the Oiche Ghaelach language and music night in Grace?s bar every Monday, to the range of bands and singers hosted in the Railway Bar, to classical and traditional performances to the Cloughjordan Summer School of Music (part of the Cloughjordan Festival), there is a musical event every week in Cloughjordan. And this year?s Cloughjordan Festival, which will be announcing its preliminary programme shortly, is looking forward to a much expanded musical programme and the continued growth of the Cloughjordan Summer School of Music, which was huge success in 2010, its first year.

Classical music fans will want to keep their ears on Cloughjordan in future, because the goal is to bring a number of classical performing groups to the town every year. The Engegård Quartet will be a truly memorable start to classical music performance in 2011, playing Haydn, Ravel?s magical and effervescent F major quartet, Argentinean tangos, and more. The stunning playing of the Engegård Quartet will be enhanced by the venue: the acoustics in St Kieran?s Church of Ireland make it a superb venue for classical music.

Tickets for the Engegård Quartet on Wednesday, 6 April at 8pm in St. Kieran?s Church, Cloughjordan are ?15 or ?10 concession (student, unwaged, retired) from Austin?s Centra or Sheelagh na Gig bookshop in Cloughjordan.
