TULLAMORE RUGBY REPORT

TULLAMORE RUGBY REPORT W/E 7th NOV 2010.

HARRY GALE U-21 LEAGUE CUP.

TULLAMORE   14    MULLINGAR   10.

This was always going to be a crunch match from the time the fixtures were released and so  it proved to be on a wet Friday night in Spollenstown. Last season this fixture in Mullingar was won by the home side in a very physical game and Mullingar went on to reach the final of the competition.

It started to rain as the players literally ran on to the pitch and continued for the full game. This affected the Tullamore backline to a greater extent as they included two first team players  at 10 and 15 and would be more effective on a dry evening. On the night it was the forwards who dominated the game with Ger Molloy, Paul McNiff and Alan Clarke outstanding. Tullamore took the lead midway through the half when some quick ball was won and Danny Madden was put through for a try that Johnny Moloney converted from near the touchline. The same two repeated the feat just before half time to double the score to 14-00. Mullingar had periods of dominance during the half and it took some excellent defending to keep them from scoring a try.

Mullingar did kick a penalty fifteen minutes into a second where Tullamore did more defending than attacking. The home side always looked in control and it was in injury time that Mullingar got a converted try to earn a losing bonus point that they deserved.

This win should guarantee Tullamore a place in the semi-final of this league cup and do not be surprised to see these two teams meet again.
