Tullamore R.F.C. show their weakside

TULLAMORE RUGBY REPORT W/E 31st OCT. ALL IRELAND JUNIOR CUP TULLAMORE   11    SLIGO   19. To  say Tullamore lack consistancy is an understatement when you compare the performances and wins of the last two weeks against Saturday’s poor performance against an average Sligo side. The visitors to Spollenstown took the opportunities available and deserved  the win. Sligo started the game in determined fashion and Tullamore saw very little ball in the opening ten minutes. Tullamore started to dominate after fifteen minutes and missed a glorious opportunity to score when they dropped a pass on the goal line. After twenty three minutes Johnny Moloney opened the scoring with a penalty, awarded for offside. Sligo had so few opportunities that they tried a drop goal attempt from near the touchline. Richie Hughes scored a try on the half hour mark after severel phases of quick rugby and fast handling by forwards and backs. In a rare attack the Sligo No 10 kicked deep into the Tullamore 22 and the winger won the arial dual for the ball to feed a Sligo centre who scored a try. Johnny Moloney replied with a penalty to leave Tullamore leading 11-05 at half time. The second half contained severel knock ons by Tullamore and the wrong attacking options being taken on a regular basis. It was no surprise when Sligo took the lead with a converted try after 17 minutes when they exploited a huge gap in the Tullamore defence. Within ten minutes they took full advantage of another  gap in defence to score another converted try. Tullamore did not look like getting the scores required to save the day in the last ten minutes. Next week is  free and a chance for Tullamore to regroup for the league with a home match on the 13th November against Cill Dara. TEAM: 15.Mick Brazil, 14. Colin Hughes, 13. Ivor Scully, 12. LEINSTER PROVINCIAL 3RDS LEAGUE TULLAMORE  25   PORTLAOISE    18 A good win in this fourth league match of the season leaves Tullamore top of the league  and they travel to play a new Kilkenny club called Normans in the next round. First  half tries from Alan Harvey and James Buckley were offset by a try and two penalties to Portlaoise  to leave the home side trailing by a point at half time. An Alan Harvey put Tullamore ahead  but a quick reply with a converted try from the visitors regained the lead. It looked that a Johnny Butler penalty was going to leave the game a draw in this local derby. Tullamore had other ideas and eventually an attack went to plan with James Buckley getting his second try with Butler converting in injury time AVIVA STADIUM CLUB DRAW. 1st Prize – Declan Sheadon (seller R Cobbe) – overnight in Dublin + 2 tickets South Africa game 2nd Prize – Ger Scully, Tullamore Tribune – 2 Tickets New Zealand game and 2 tickets Heineken Cup Leinster V Clermont 3rd Prize – Tommy Coleman Banagher – 2 Tickets Argentina game and 2 tickets Heineken Cup Leinster V Clermont 4th Prize – Sean Guinan (seller B Milne) – 2 Tickets Argentina game and 2 tickets Heineken Cup Leinster V Clermont 5th Prize – Dermot Murphy (seller B Adams) – 2 Tickets Argentina game and 2 tickets Heineken Cup Leinster V Clermont 6th Prize – Alan Bothwell (seller M Carroll) – 2 Tickets Argentina game 7th Prize – Ada Cleary (seller Aidan Cleary) 2 Tickets Argentina game 8th Prize – Aoife Costello,Tullamore Hardware – 2 tickets Heineken Cup Leinster V Clermont 9th Prize – Martin Crowe (seller G Conroy) – 2 tickets Heineken Cup Leinster V Clermont 10th Prize – Mal Byrne(seller R Cobbe) – 2 tickets Heineken Cup Leinster V Clermont NEXT  WEEKEND; FRIDAY  U-21 Tullamore  v  Mullingar  Gale League Cup @ 8.00pm SATURDAY  U-13 Tullamore v Naas Leinster Premier League @ 12.30pm U-15 Tullamore  v Naas Leinster Premier League @ 12.30pm U-17 Naas  v  Tullamore Leinster Premier League U-19 Naas  v  Tullamore Leinster Premier League
