U14 Hurling County Champions

Congrats to the Clara U14 hurlers who brought home the first County championship cup of the season last Sunday the 15th of August. With the sun beaming on O’Connor Park the lads in the Black and Whites did us all proud. Clara played CRC Gaels in what can only be described as a clinical display of hurling from all panel members. Clara opened the scoring with two points only to concede two fist half goals to CRC Gaels and go to the dressing room at half time 3pts behind on a scoreline of Clara 0-6 to CRC Gaels 2-3. Clara came out in the second half and knew what they had to do to bring the trophy back to the streets of Clara and each and everyone of the panel stepped up an extra couple of gears to finish the game victors. The full time score was Clara 4-10 to CRC Gaels 3-6. Well done lads and Mentors. Back To School Discos

Clara GAA Bord na Nog are holding two discos on Sat the 21st of August in the GAA social centre. The kids can look forward to DJ Bundy in the afternoon from 4pm to 6pm and the Teenagers will have their Disco from 8.30pm to 11.30pm.

U14 Football

Clara U14 footballers play Ferbane/ Belmont in the county semi- final in Tubber this Saturday the 21st of August at 11am. Come show you support to the lads and wear your “Black and Whites”!

U12 Football

Clara gained a vital win in the U12 Championship on Wednesday evening last the 11th of August with a one point victory over St Broughan’s Clara were trailing at half time five points to two but a very good last ten minutes saw Clara gain victory 0-9 to 0-8.
A second game was played between all panel members and Clara played well in this game to gain a narrow victory. Senior Football
Clara Senior footballers continued their unbeaten streak against Tullamore last Friday the 13th of August in O’Connor Park. Clara got the 1st score of the game through a Thomas Deehan free before Tullamore got a goal. John Reynolds got Clara’s next score & together with a T Deehan point brought Clara level after 10 minutes. A John O’Hara point then put Clara 0-4 to 1-0 in front. J O’Hara then got another to leave Clara 0-5 to 1-0 ahead half way through the half. Another T Deehan point along with points by Graham Guilfoyle and Scott Brady left Clara 0-8 to 1-0 up. John Reynolds got a point for Clara followed by a Tullamore point to leave Clara 0-9 to 1-1 ahead going into the last few minutes of the half. J Reynolds then got a point before Tullamore got the last score of the half to leave the half time score 0-10 to 1-2 ahead, Clara having had the aid of the wind in the 1st half. J Reynolds got the opening score of the 2nd half. Ross Brady added another & another point by T Deehan put Clara 0-13 to 1-2 in front. The teams then swapped points with the Clara point coming from J O’Hara. Tullamore got another point before T Deehan got one to leave the score 0-15 to 1-4. Tullamore then scored a free. J O’Hara got another along with a Matthew Mitchell 45 which put Clara 0-17 to 1-5 entering the last five minutes. Tullamore got the last 3 points of the match which left the end score 0-17 to 1-8 in favour of Clara. Intermediate Football

Clara Intermediate footballers played Raheen in Clara last Thursday 12th of August. Clara conceded a couple of early goals in the first 5 mins before Alan Kidney got our first point. Raheen then scored another goal and together with a couple of points they les by 3-5 to 0-1 after 10 mins. After 20 mins Raheen increased their lead to 4-7 to 0-2 with the Clara point coming from a Kieran O’Meara free. In the last few mins of the half Raheen scored another 1-2 to leave them 5-9 to 0-2 at half time. Clara outscored Raheen by 3 points to 2 in the opening 10 mins of the 2nd half with the Clara scores coming from 2 Alan Kidney frees and a point by Jimmy Taylor. Barry Cushen then sent over a good point for Clara before Raheen got 3 unanswered points with 10 mins left in the match. Alan Kidney then scored another free before Keir Mannering scored a good point from 40 yards. The end score ended up as 5-14 to 0-8 in favour of Raheen. All Ireland Medal

Clara GAA club would like to congratulate Lee Tierney on Winning GOLD in the U10 25mtr free style in the Community Games All Ireland Swimming Finals in Athlone on Sunday last 15th August. Well Done Lee, and all concerned.

Weekly Club Lotto

Weekly Lotto 14/08/10-There was no winner of the weekly club Lotto jackpot. The winning numbers were 3-5-20-27. There were five match three winners who will each receive €30 and they were Julie Duffy, Shirley Coughlan, Fergal Bracken, The Redmond Family and Rebecca Mc Mahon . Next weeks lotto takes place in Doc’s and the Jackpot is €3950. Thanks to all who support our lotto and thanks to all our ticket sellers.

“Sponsor a Sod”- Clara GAA club would like to invite all current and past members (and anyone with any connection to the club, no matter how tenuous!) to be part of the launch of the new official Clara GAA Club website and the ‘Sponsor a Sod’ campaign. As part of our fund raising campaign to complete the new Championship pitch in Kilcoursey members and friends of the club are invited to sponsor a sod on the new pitch. Sponsors will receive a piece of the virtual pitch on a special page on our new website with each “sod” being added piece by piece to the page.
