Cork International Film Festival announces deadlines for two creative initiatives – IGNITE Documentary Talent Development Programme & Parallax Emerging Film Artist Award
Applications have opened for Year Four of the IGNITE Documentary Talent Development Programme, supporting cross-border documentary production, and the Parallax Emerging Film Artist Award 2024, aimed at supporting recent fine art graduates.
IGNITE, the successful and innovative collaboration between Cork International Film Festival (CIFF) and Docs Ireland, Belfast, is a talent development programme directed towards emerging Irish and Northern Irish documentary filmmakers. This cross-border partnership aims to foster a new generation of documentary filmmakers, and applications are accepted in English and as Gaeilge, with a particular interest in Irish language projects. 2023’s edition follows the success of three previous iterations, in which 16 feature documentary projects from emerging filmmakers have been developed through training, workshops and one-to-one mentoring.
During this comprehensive training initiative, participants will gain a grounding in all facets of project development, with hands-on support from both festivals. They will acquire market knowledge of the documentary industry, learning about the current trends in non-fiction film production, and an expansive understanding of the sector. The programme will include workshops, masterclasses, and in-person conversations with established industry professionals.
Applications will now be accepted until Friday, September 29th 2023 at 5pm. Successful projects will be announced in mid-October.
The IGNITE Documentary Talent Development Programme is supported by TG4, The Arts Council of Ireland, Screen Ireland, Screen Skillnet, Northern Ireland Screen, and Arts & Business NI.
The second initiative, the newly branded Parallax Emerging Film Artist Award will headline CIFF’s Parallax Strand – profiling Film Artists and Artist Moving Image work – at the 68th Festival this November. This award seeks out, supports and platforms graduate film artists from Irish tertiary fine art institutions. The selection panel will include acclaimed film artist Maximilian Le Cain, and representatives from award sponsors CIFF, National Sculpture Factory and Sample-Studios.
This Call is open to fine art BA graduates who will graduate in the 2022/23 academic year. The Award comprises:
- €5,000 bursary
- 12 month Associate Membership and training support from Sample-Studios
- Studio space provision from the National Sculpture Factory
- Solo exhibition opportunity in Sample-Studios’ Gallery, The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion, as part of the Cork International Film Festival Programme in November 2024.
The deadline for the 2024 Parallax Emerging Film Artist Award is Monday, September 4th, 5pm.
