Delegation of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications visiting Amsterdam and Rotterdam Airports as part of its consideration of Ireland’s National Aviation Policy
Early tomorrow morning, Thursday 17 November, a delegation of the Joint Committee will be travelling to the Netherlands as part of its ongoing work on Ireland’s National Aviation Policy, which is due for review by the Department of Transport.
The Committee will be visiting Amsterdam Schiphol and Rotterdam/the Hague airports, to consider the Dutch Government’s new approach to re-distributing traffic from hub airports to regional airports. The delegation will be accompanied on its airport visits by representatives of the Irish Embassy to the Netherlands.
On Friday 18 November, the delegation will also be meeting with the Dutch Cycling Embassy in Rotterdam as part of its ongoing consideration of the development of active travel infrastructure.
Deputy Kieran O’Donnell, Cathaoirleach of the Committee, said today “The Committee has commenced a body of work considering the National Aviation Policy in advance of its review by the Department of Transport. This visit to the Netherlands will provide us with a valuable international perspective on how the aviation industry can contribute to balanced regional development”.
“We will also be looking at active travel infrastructure in Rotterdam as part of our consideration of the on-going development of same in Ireland.”
