Ballet Ireland Brings Romeo and Juliet To Thurles
Based on Shakespeare’s tale of the star-crossed lovers, Romeo & Juliet is one of the greatest love stories of all time. Against a backdrop of ancient feuds and gang warfare, the ill-fated young couple falls hopelessly in love, but their families are bitter enemies. Shakespeare’s tragic tale is transported from the streets of medieval Verona into the classrooms of a modern-day high school. It becomes a play within a play. Ballet Ireland’s Romeo & Juliet is a high voltage ballet full of humour, wit and drama that feels like West Side Story in pointe shoes, with feuding violent gangs, the delicious stirrings of first love and on to the fallout of hot-blooded youth. It promises to delight with an enduring tale of love and tragedy set to the familiar and wonderful score by Prokofiev.
It’s a ballet you will be utterly engrossed in and transported into Romeo & Juliet’s world, where feelings of passion are bursting out of every fibre -slowing down just isn’t an option. Come and experience the way ballet can really move you. Romeo & Juliet is romantic and passionate, and it’s a real man’s ballet! All those fiery roles of Romeo, Tybalt, Mercutio, Paris and Lord Capulet – filled with testosterone and pride. So don’t just come with your female friends, bring the men too.
We promise they’ll love it! Choreography by Morgann Runacre-Temple – One of Europe’s hottest young choreographers – who just happens to be a woman!
