Nationwide and across the world, GAA clubs held events to celebrate club life and the close links they have with their members and the local community. Clara GAA would like to thank everyone for participating in what was a fantastic day at Pairc Phroinsias in what were beautiful conditions. There were plenty of games for everyone to enjoy. Massive thanks to everyone who helped make the day a great success.

Minor Hurling League Final

Minor Hurling Division 2 League Final

Clara played CRC Gaels on Thursday night last in Rath in the final of the minor hurling division 2 league. Losing 4-04 to 0-07 at half time, some strong words were given at the half time break and we got stuck into CRC Gaels from the throw in. It was a tough hard hitting and physical game throughout and we lost on a scoreline of Clara 2-14 to CRC Gaels 5-09. It’s not often I say that the better team lost but this was certainly the case this evening. Goals win games and we left it very difficult conseding 5. This is a good group of lads who can hurl and they will have plenty to say in the championship later in the year.

Under 14 Féile Football League Semi Final

We made the short trip over to a well prepared Cappincur pitch to play Rhode in the semi final of the Féile football league on Friday evening last. In a sometimes scrappy game with lots of fouling Clara tried their best to play an open game of football. Heading in at the half time break Clara were 3-05 to 0-03 up. The game opened up a bit more in the second half and that’s where we played our best football outscoring Rhode 4-04 to 1-03 in the second half and creating numerous more chances. Clara ran out fully deserving winners on a scoreline of Clara 7-09 Rhode 1-06.

The Clara team was: Conor Cushen, Aodhan Moran, Dion Conroy, Steven Falsey, Stephen Roe, Thomas Devine,Luke Kennedy, Cormac Delaney (0-02 frees), Lee Tierney, Pat Phelan (0-01), Jack Reynolds (0-03 frees), Alex Egan (3-01), Eoin Gavin (3-00), Adam Kelly (1-02) and Adam Grennan. Subs: Barry Egan for Adam Grennan,  Marcus Dalton for Stephen Roe, Neil Robbins for Pat Phelan, Adam McCloskey for Steven Falsey, Luke Bracken for Aodhan Moran and Kai Dunne for Eoin Gavin.

Mid Tier 1 Football League

Clara played Ballycommon on Friday night last in the 4^th round of the league. Clara got off to a good start, leading 1-05 to 0-03 mid way through the half. The rest of the half was even enough and we took a 4 point lead in at half time, leading 1-09 to 1-05. The second half was a bit lower scoring than the first, although we did get a second goal after about 10 mins of the half which seemed to end the match as a contest. The rest of the match was fairly quiet and Clara ran out winners on a score line of 2-14 to 1-9. The Clara team was:James Kinahan, Colm Doyle, John Flattery, Gavin Carroll, Liam Monaghan, Richie Slammon, JJ Colsh, Carl Stewart, Paul Deehan (0-01), Keir Mannering (0-01), John Reynolds (1-04, 0-02frees, 0-01 45), Callum Stewart (0-01), Aaron Ngo (0-01), John O’Hara (0-03) and Pa Smith (1-03, 0-02frees).Subs: Martin Fleming for K Mannering, Michael Mitchell for P Smith and Mark Fallon for J Kinahan.

Lotto Results                                                                                                                                     The draw for the weekly club lotto took place on Sunday night last at Bingo. The numbers drawn were: 1-8-9-25. There was no winner of the jackpot. We had 6 match 3’s who receive €25 each. These were: Lil Dunican, Margaret Fleming, Joe Rabbitte, Aileen Feehan, Marie Collins and Joe Deehan.

Next weeks’ jackpot is €4,600 and the draw will be held at Bingo on Sunday 15^th May.
