Motorists To Be Hit €80 Fine And Given 2 Penalty Points For Defective Tyres
There will be tougher penalties for Motorists who are caught driving with defective tyres, from Sundaymotorists will receive an €80 fine and hit with penalty points if they are driving with unsafe tyres.
It is understood drivers will recieve two points on the spot if they for pay up immediately, however they will receive four if they bring their case to court and subsequently found guilty. The new law was tracked by Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe after research showed they were partly to blame for road accidents in which 71 people died over five years.
Mr Donohoe told reporters: “This new measure is intended to promote greater awareness among motorists of the hazards of driving with tyres that are not in roadworthy condition.”
