Join The Great Irish Bake And Sprinkle Some Magic For Temple Street
Food writer and broadcaster Lilly Higgins was the icing on the cake at a very special picnic today to celebrate the launch of the Great Irish Bake for Temple Street. She teamed up with some of Temple Street’s tiniest bakers to encourage everyone in Co. Offaly to take part in this year’s Great Irish Bake, proudly supported by Tesco Ireland.
As Temple Street Ambassador for the Great Irish Bake, Lilly is urging people from all over Ireland to do something extra sweet for sick children by holding their own delicious fundraising bake sales at home, in school or at work on Friday, 15th April.
Over the past eighteen months, Temple Street has been busy fundraising to build a new, much-needed Neurology and Renal Outpatients Unit. Funds raised from the Great Irish Bake will go directly to support this ambitious project.
Lilly says, “Temple Street’s brave patients are such an inspiration and I’m delighted to support the Great Irish Bake this year as a Temple Street Ambassador. Holding your own bake sale is so simple – you don’t need to be an expert to have a go and raise some dough! Your delicious cupcakes have the power to change children’s lives for the better.”
Over the years, with the help of generous supporters, Temple Street has transformed from what was once a series of inner city houses into the state-of-the-art hospital it is today. But the work is not done. With over 145,000 patient visits every year, Temple Street needs your support to help give hope to young patients and their families.
Paediatric Neurology and Renal Dialysis & Transplantation are two of Temple Street’s major specialties; the expert care in these units is a life-line for children all over Ireland.
Denise Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of the Temple Street Foundation says, “We need €5 million to make our new Neurology & Renal Unit a reality and we’re over half-way there! The money you raise at your bake sale will help to get us over the finish line so that more than 6000 patients and their families can benefit from this new, comfortable and modern facility every year.”
Christine Heffernan, Corporate Affairs Director Tesco Ireland says, “We’re really proud to be sponsoring the Great Irish Bake for the second year running. Last year the effort that Ireland’s bakers went to was amazing and we’re delighted to again back this fantastic fundraiser. Aside from the obvious appeal, these bake sales really do go a long way in helping the little patients at Temple Street and make a huge difference to the hospital’s fundraising efforts. As sponsor, we are going big to support this national fundraiser and will be holding one of Ireland’s largest bake sales in Tesco stores countrywide on Friday, 15th April. So please pop in and support on the day in any way you can, and of course indulge a little too!”
