Na Fianna GAA Club Notes
U14 FOOTBALL FEILE LEAGUE
Na Fianna U14 Footballers secured top place in the group of the Feile League as they made it 4 wins out of 4 by beating the previously unbeaten Edenderry in their final Rd game in Geashill last Monday week afternoon. Unlike their previous 3 games this time Na Fianna had to pull out all the stops to claim the win on a scoreline of 6-07 to 5-06 in a hugely exciting encounter. Na Fianna opened the scoring with a goal on 4 mins when Jacob Beatty’s shot was blocked down by the keeper and tapped into the net by Lee Mulpeter. Na Fianna put over their first point before Edenderry got off the mark in blistering fashion with 2-01 with second goal coming from a penalty. Both sides added a point apiece before Na Fianna got their second goal when Lee Mulpeter’s shot was knocked out of the keeper’s hands and flicked to the net by James Bryan. Edenderry then then added a point to lead at the break by just the minimum 2-03 to 2-02. Na Fianna again made a blistering start to the second half by scoring their 3rd goal straight from the throw in as Lee Mulpeter gave a pass to the inrunning Emmett Curley who shot across goal to the left corner of the net and they added a point. Then Edenderry took control scoring 3-02 to go into what appeared to be an unasailable lead. At this stage there looked to be no way back for Na Fianna but they showed their never give up attitude as they gradually began to claw their way back into it first with 3 points followed by goal no 4 scored by Emmett Curley his second of the game on 22 mins. Edenderry who now led by 2 were awarded their second penalty on 26 mins but this time Na Fianna keeper Conor Kelly brillantly saved and the follow up shot was kicked over the bar. Then Conor’s brother Gavin became super sub and the hero for Na Fianna as shortly after coming on he got in to score 2-01 himself inside the last 3 mins to turn a 3 point deficit into a 4 point win. Na Fianna now go on to the Feile Blitz Finals next weekend where they will meet Shamrocks in the Semi Final.
