Irish Cancer Society invites Offaly women to join their Mini Marathon Team and help provide vital cancer services with every step

The Irish Cancer Society is calling on women of all ages to sign up to join their team ahead of the VHI Mini Marathon 2015 so the Society can continue its work of providing vital cancer services. The event, which takes place on Monday, 1st of June 2015, will see over 40,000 women walk, jog and run the 10 kilometre route across Dublin City. Last year, 39 women from Offaly took part in the Mini-Marathon in support of the Society.

Kate O’Reilly, National Campaigns Officer at the Irish Cancer Society said: “The VHI Mini Marathon is always a fantastic day out and it’s amazing to see all our runners and walkers in yellow t-shirts joining with us in the fight against cancer. We will have a fantastic day lined up for our Offaly supporters with refreshments on offer near the finish line and a party to celebrate their wonderful achievement!

The VHI Women’s Mini-Marathon is a great goal for those looking to get fit ahead of the Summer. We know that 50 per cent of cancer can be reduced by making simple lifestyle choices such as eating a healthy diet and getting regular physical activity – so why not get training for the Mini-Marathon, improve your overall health and raise funds for a good cause while doing so!”

With over 33,000 people diagnosed with cancer in Ireland each year, the services of the Irish Cancer Society are in demand. Ahead of the big day in June, women across Ireland are being asked to consider joining team Irish Cancer Society for the day and raising funds to support the Society’s work.

The Irish Cancer Society will be hosting a gathering to thank all of their team at the Stephen’s Green Food Village. Located on the first floor of the Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, St. Stephen’s Green Food Village will offer great food and a superb view of fellow team mates coming across the finish line.
