Clara GAA Notes
CLARA GAA 2015 U8 INDOOR HURLING FINALS
The finals of the U8 indoor hurling took place last Tuesday March 10th in the social centre, Clara. It was great to see the many parents and family members who turned out in support. A very successful last 8 weeks culminated in this brilliant evening. Well done to all the kids for the commitment and the entertainment
Ber Cowen Cup
Aughamore v Woodfield
This was the game of the night with Woodfield jumping out to a 3 goal lead with goals from Jimmy Sherlock and Dylan Minnock and great goalkeeping by Kyle McGeagan. However the Aughamore lads got themselves back into the game with goals from Dylan Dunne and Jonah Devine. Isaac Ryan was cleaning up in the defence and with further goals from Callum Heffernan, Flynn Morcam and Dylan Minnock it looked like it was to be their night. Aughamore re-jigged their team and Jonah went full back and with goals from Ryss Johnston, Tadhg Maher and Niall Clerkin the game was tied at 6-6. What a thriller. It stayed deadlocked for 5 mins until Dylan Dunne scored the winning goal. Aughamore won out by 7 goals to 6.
The Tommy Dolan Cup
Kilbride v Kilcoursey
Our second game of the night was won and lost in the first 5 mins when Kilcoursey through Dylan Weir, Martin Lee Coughlan and Ruairi Dalton took a 5 goal lead. Their goalkeeper Daragh Rowan was unbeatable and Ryan Handy and Lorcan Dalton were repelling all attacks. Just before half time Kilbride got 2 goals through Tadhg McGrath and Oisin O’Meara and it gave them a glimmer of hope at halftime. Hugh Handy and Luke Finn worked tirelessly to get Kilbride back into the game and Aaron Kelly got another goal after great work from Ayden Kelly. Kilcoursey had other ideas and 4 more goals from Dylan Weir, Martin Lee Coughlan Ryan Handy gave them a 9-3 win.
The Tom Naughton Cup
Ballinough v Clashawaun
The final game for the Tom Naughton Cup was a great game of hurling with Ballinough winning on a scoreline of 9 goals to 5. It was not to be Clashawauns night as the first goal was an o.g. and this rocked them. Paul Walsh then hit them for 2 goals followed by goals from Callum Bracken and Jamie Larkin Regan. Ronan Touhey got his team going with a great goal but they were getting it very hard to get past Ben Melia in the backs. At half time Clashawaun re-jigged their team and PJ Looby, James McKenna and Ronan Touhey scored 4 great goals with Dylan Deehan Kavanagh dominating in the defence. However Ballinough upped the pace with Ryan Fleming and Callum Bracken now in the forwards they were able to finish out the game in style with further goals from Jamie, Paul and Ben and when Eddie Doyle blew the final whistle the Ballinough lads had 4 goals to spare
After the games the Cups and runner-up trophies were presented, Michael Sheridan presented the Ber Cowen Cup, Orla Dolan presented the Tommy Dolan Cup and John Naughton presented the Tom Naughton Cup. Each player also received their medal and GAA poster from Alan Cronin, Clara Junior Hurling Captain and long serving dual player. We would also like to thank the Clara GAA for their co-operation and especially Joe Deehan and Jim Buckley for having the hall ready every week and to our two referees Seamus Fleming and Eddie Doyle, also the coaches and parents of all the players
