Local Entrepreneur Returns From Chief Executive Bootcamp in North America

Local entrepreneur, Vincent Cleary of Glenisk, has returned home from the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ CEO Retreat that took place across Vancouver and Seattle last week.  Attended by the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ finalists and a significant number of the greater Entrepreneur of Year™ Alumni community, the CEO Retreat was focused on equipping the entrepreneurs in attendance with the building blocks to create a robust global vision for their respective businesses.

“For me, this week was all about building bonds and relationships” commented Cleary, an Industry Category finalist in the prestigious business awards programme. “It will certainly take a couple weeks to reflect on all the lessons learned over the past few days.”

The ambitious itinerary included executive education at the University of Washington and University of British Columbia, as well as guest lectures from Singularity University.  In addition to private tours of the EA Sports, Microsoft and Boeing headquarters, the group was addressed by the President and CEO of Boeing Commercial, Ray Conner; leading venture capitalist and former CFO of Microsoft, John Connors; the mastermind behind the world’s first quantum computer, Geordie Rose of D-Wave; founder and CEO of Hootsuite, Ryan Holmes, the Mayor of Seattle Ed Murray, as well as high-ranking executives driving innovation within a number of the world’s largest multinationals.

“Whether they were artists, politicians or chief executives, the speakers we brought in to address and inspire our group all started with a clear vision for global success” commented Frank O’Keeffe, Partner-in-Charge of EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™.  “The knowledge and networks accessed by our entrepreneurs during this Retreat would be indispensable to any forward-looking business leader and having over 100 of Ireland’s key job creators engaged at this level is a considerable asset for the Irish business landscape”

Based on the bootcamp MBA model, the high-octane week put the group of entrepreneurs through their paces as they were encouraged to learn from the speakers, executive education and guest lecture series as well share their experiences and problem-solve with their peers through designated team discussions.  With the greater goal to grow their businesses and create further jobs across the island of Ireland, the CEO Retreat exposed the group to emerging technologies that not only gave them an insight into the future of their respective industries but also provided them with the tools and knowledge to keep them ahead of the curve.

Filming for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ TV series on RTE will commence in late July before the finalists come face-to-face with the independent judging panel for their final assessment.  Chaired by the 2002 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Pádraig Ó Céidigh, the judging panel includes previous winners Denis O’Brien, Jerry Kennelly, Anne Heraty, Liam Casey, Brian Long, Terry Clune, Pat McDonagh, Dr. Edmond Harty and representatives from Enterprise Ireland, Invest Northern Ireland and InterTradeIreland.
