Last chance to join the challenge of a lifetime for Pieta
There’s just one month left to sign up for the experience of a lifetime and join Walk in Ireland for their Carrauntouhill / Ben Nevis Challenge in aid of Pieta House. Taking place this August and September, the challenge will take in the highest mountain in Ireland, Carrauntouhill, and the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis.
Both climbs are challenging but doable says Cathal McNicholas of Walk in Ireland: “Neither climb is technical and can be completed by any reasonably fit person. You will be guided on both climbs by experienced guides, giving you the best opportunity to complete these challenges,” he said.
Each participant is asked to raise €500 for Pieta House in order to register.
Pieta House provides a professional, one-to-one therapeutic service for people who are experiencing suicidal ideation or engaging in self-harm. Anyone can make an appointment; a doctor’s referral or a psychiatric report is not required and the service is completely free of charge. Pieta House has nine centres nationwide.
Renowned adventurer Pat Falvey is encouraging people to get involved: “Cathal and the team are great to be undertaking such a big challenge and I hope lots of people get on board and join them. Both challenges will be difficult but the fact that it’s for such a good cause is a great motivation. I wish them all the very best of luck,” he said.
The Carrauntuohill leg of the challenge will take place on Saturday the 23rd and Saturday the 30th of August, and the Ben Nevis leg is set for the 8th- 12th September. Participants have up to the end of July to register.
If you think you have what it takes to complete this challenge and want to raise funds for Pieta House while you’re at it, contact Cathal McNicholas on 0505 24845 or walkinireland@live.ie for an information pack.
