U16 FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Na Fianna U16 Footballers got their season up and running with a deserved win over Shamrocks in Rd 2 of the
League last Tuesday week in Mucklagh on a scoreline of 4-06 to 1-11. Na Fianna who had their resources streched
to the limit as they were missing about 10 players put in a very good display. Both sides got off the mark with
2 points apiece before Na Fianna took the lead for the first time on 11 mins with their first goal when David
Buckley’s high ball into the square was caught by Ray Daly who curled his shot round his man into the net. Na Fianna
then added 2 points to Shamrocks 1 before Shamrocks got back in front in the final 10 mins scoring 1-03 without
reply which saw them lead at the break by 1-06 to 1-04. Na Fianna came out all fired up and turned the game
completely in their favour with a blistering first 10 mins of the second half, first when a shot was parried by the
keeper David Buckley was on hand to flick it to net for goal no 2, then after scoring a point Ian Buckley blasted a
shot from the edge of the square to the top corner of the net and while Shamrocks replied with a point Na Fianna
hot them with anothe sucker punch of goal no 4 on 10 mins when Reece Seery’s shot from near halfway was blocked
down by the keeper before being tapped into the net by the inrunning Ray Daly. Shamrocks then got going creating
plenty of chances over the next 15 mins but could only manage to convert 3 more points. Then in the final few mins
Na Fianna steadied the ship as both sides completed their tally with just 1 more point apiece and so Na Fianna held
on to claim the win.
