DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Raheen Intermediate Footballers made it 3 wins out of 3 in the Div 2 League last Friday evening in Geashill, this time taking the scalp of neighbours Walsh Island on a scoreline of 1-04 to 1-03 in a game with almost as many cards as scores as Walsh Island received 3 black cards and 1 red and Raheen 1 black card. Walsh Island opened the scoring with a point in the 5th min and this is how it remained until Raheen got off the mark with a point in the 17th min. Both sides added a point apiece before Raheen struck for the first goal on 27 mins when Richie Reynolds shot was blocked by the keeper and Danny McEvoy blasted the rebound into the net but Walsh Island responded with their goal on the stroke of half time when Raheen keeper Keith Kirwan pulled off a good save but in the goal mouth scramble which followed Walsh Island managed to flick the ball to the net and so at the break the sides were level 1-02 apiece. Walsh Island were reduced to 14 men early in the second half when their full back received a second yellow but they immediately put over a point to go in front. Raheen equalised with a pointed free midway through the half and took the lead with another point with 8 mins left both scored by Paddy Rigney and this is how it remained as Raheen held on to claim the win.
