Q Mark Awards 2013 From L to R John Sheridan Jean Banahan Orla Condren Irene Collins Brendan Ferguson.

Home care provider Comfort Keepers has been named National Home Care Provider of the Year at the Q Mark Awards.

The Q Mark is awarded to companies who strive to achieve high standards by auditing them against quality standards and providing independent professional recognition of best practice standards.

Home care in Ireland is currently not regulated and the Q Mark is fast becoming the standard accreditation for quality in the sector.

Due to its popularity Comfort Keepers had to beat off stiff competition to win the national award.

The company was also one of three finalists for the overall Q Mark National Quality Management System award.

It has been estimated that 28% of Irish nursing home residents have a low to moderate dependency level and many of these residents might very well have continued to live at home if the right supports had been made available to them at the appropriate time.

Comfort Keepers provides high quality care to older people in their own homes in 18 counties and 24 HSE administrative areas and their offices cover 85% of the population.

Employing more than 1,100 carers nationwide, over the years it has helped more than 10,000 older and younger disabled people to be cared for at home.

It is a family-owned home care provider dedicated to helping people remain as independent as possible in their own homes.

Bob Power founded Comfort Keepers after his father needed some assistance at home. With the help of home care Gerry Power remained at home for five years when otherwise he would have required nursing home care.

Mr Power, Comfort Keepers Managing Director said: “Being awarded Home Care Provider of the Year is a fantastic recognition for our carers who strive to go above and beyond to help our clients stay happy and independent in their own home.”

“It’s also a testament to all the hard work we’ve put into creating quality systems and processes and employing kind, caring people, whilst continually improving standards in the care industry. Our practicing standards are very high and we thrive in focusing on the quality of care delivered to our clients and helping them remain at home.”

Commenting on what the awards means for the Offaly organisation,Client Care Manager, Shane Clancy said “We are all very proud of this award. It simply means we are going to have to work even harder to improve on our quality systems and stay ahead of our competitors.”
