U16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Na Fianna U16 Footballers demolished Tullamore in the Quarter Final of the Championship last Monday week in Geashill on a scoreline of 4-14 to 0-06 to claim a place in the semi final where they will meet neighbours St Vincents. Na Fianna opened the scoring with the first point straight from the throw in and Tullamore replied with their opening point. Na Fianna then added 2 points before striking their first goal on 14 min when a shot was cleared out where it was taken by Jack O’Brien out on the wing who shot it straight back in on goal where Stephen Pierce was on hand to get the deftest of touches to flick it past the keeper to the net. The remainder of the half saw Na Fianna add 5 more points with Tullamore replying with 2 points so at the break Na Fianna had a comfortable lead of 1-08 to 0-03. In the first 15 mins of the second half Tullamore tried to mount a comeback but could only mange to register 2 points to Na Fianna’s 1. Then in a glorious 5 minute spell from the midpoint of the half Na Fianna tore open the Tullamore defence as they blitzed them for 3 goals in a row, the first finished by Ray Daly after being set up by Stephen Pierce, the second blasted in by Colm McDermott following Kevin Kinahan’s run through the middle and the third fired in by Kevin Kinahan himself.. These goals left Tullamore reeling with their challenge dead and buried as Na Fianna cruised to the finish adding 5 more points to Tullamore’s 1 to wrap it up.
