U14 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL
Na Fianna U14 Footballers Championship aspirations for this year were ended last Friday evening with defeat to St Broughans in the Quarter Final in Walsh Island on a scoreline of 8-15 to 3-07. St Broughans opened the scoring with a point straight from the throw in and Na Fianna replied immediately with their first point. The remainder of the half was one way traffic as St Broughans got going and took over adding scores at will which meant at the break St Broughans led 5-07 to 0-01. Na Fianna were determined not to throw in the towel and came out fighting at the start of the second half and were rewarded as they pointed a free straight from the throw in followed immediately by their first goal punched to the net by Craig Strong. Within a minute Na Fianna had goal no 2 when Craig Strong’s shot from out on the wing went all the the way into the top corner of the net and this was followed by another pointed free. Unfortunately this would be as close as it would get as St Broughans got back going again and for the next 20 mins added a further 2-07 to Na Fianna’s 2 points. Na Fianna got a third goal in the 24th min when Kaelyn Thompson’s free from about 30m out went all the way into the net and he pointed 2 more frees before the end side of St Broughans final goal.
