David Coleman to Honour Tipperary Student at All Ireland Youth Awards
Radio and television personality David Coleman will be the keynote speaker at the seventh annual Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards ceremony in Kilkenny later this month, it was announced today.
Emma Lacey, a student at Loreto Secondary School, Clonmel is one of 20 finalists hoping to be named the 2013 All Ireland Youth Volunteer of the Year.
“The Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards Programme provides a unique platform to showcase Ireland’s young heroes,” said Coleman, a clinical psychologist, broadcaster and author of three books. “The programme engages hundreds of youth volunteers who work tirelessly in their communities and abroad each day. I’m delighted to be associated with a programme that reaffirms the value of young people to modern Irish society. Congratulations to Emma on her extraordinary work.”
Pramerica Systems Ireland Ltd. sponsors the Pramerica Spirit of Community programme in partnership with the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals and the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland.
The programme, introduced seven years ago, encourages youth volunteerism throughout Ireland, and identifies and rewards young role models.
Ireland’s top 20 youth volunteers will attend the gala awards ceremony place on March 27 in the Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny.
At the gala, two of the students will be named All-Ireland Youth Volunteers of the Year. They will each receive €1,000 for a charity of their choice, a gold medallion and an all-expense paid trip to the United States in May to participate in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards ceremony.
